Actually this is another photo taken by Thistle. It is a photo of an ambulance blocking the cycle path whilst attending an accident on the Tolo Harbour section. He is quite disturbed by the way that the ambulance is parked.
This photo has raise a doubt as to why the driver of such a vehicle will position it such that there is further possibilities to cause more accidents to passing cyclists.
In this case, a motorcycle paramedic had already arrived on the scene before the ambulance to attend to the cyclist. As the injuries were not life threatening and the ambulance was called just to pick up the shaken cyclist to transfer them to the hospital, it seems that the actions of the ambulance driver was very lax and laid back.
Maybe he may not be aware of the potential hazard that he is causing for other cyclists. It just seems strange that a person whose job is to help others does not have the presence of mind nor the training to perform his duties to a professional level.
Now we have tried to look at the matter from their view point and tried to provide the explanation:-
It was parked like that to protect the accident victim being injured further by other cyclists as they usually do when there is an accident on the road.
Here is the question again:-
It would have been better for him to park the vehicle parallel with the cycle track, taking up one lane rather than 90% of the width. It seems common sense.
It is just a little bit of oversight by the ambulance driver. He does not mean to cause any danger to other cyclists, but how could he be expected to understand the worries of cyclists? He is just a driver, not a cyclist.
It may be a little bit dangerous to other cyclists to park the ambulance that way, but what is the big deal? They are supposed to look out for obstacles on the cycle path, don¡¦t they? There are so many bollards on the cycle path that they shouldn¡¦t mind to have one more obstacle.
Even if some cyclists hit the ambulance and injure themselves, what is the big deal? The ambulance is already there and ready to take them to the hospital.
The ambulance driver did that on purpose. This is part of the cycling safety education scheme. A little injury will do these careless cyclists good and remind them to be more careful next time.
The BOSS will be unhappy if the ambulance only takes one person. Taking several injured cyclists in one run is more cost effective than taking only one. This ambulance driver is smart and knows how to please his boss.
Who say the ambulance is not parked parallel to the cycle path? No the ambulance is actually parked parallel to the cycle path, but when you took the photo the ambulance was already moving.
Yes the ambulance is parked that way on purpose. The driver is very professional and knows how to protect the injured cyclist from further injuries by other bicycles on the cycle path. Don¡¦t you know that bicycles are very dangerous? Well I don¡¦t know why bicycles are dangerous but who care? Everyone say that so it must be true.
Hey why do you ask this question? It is NOT WORTHWHILE to spend time on this subject.
